I think what is important to consider also is that this is the AMERICAN feminist movement.
In most other places of the world, people embrace sexuality- instead of turning it into such a taboo that it is. Talking with my German and Austrian house mates while studying abroad, half of them could not even comprehend what was wrong with the whole Bill Clinton scandal. The ones that did comprehend it, still did not think the US's reaction was appropriate.
My understanding is that Americans are largely Protestant, romanticize about being Roman Catholic, and in all cases, shun any connection with sexuality. This just wouldn't have been a problem anywhere else in the world.
